Kanarek is an Android app with two main surfaces: a news reader and a radio/IPTV player. It also ships two launcher widgets, one for headlines and one for playback controls.
RSS 2.0 and Atom sources, OPML import/export, search, saved/read state, optional clean text, notifications, and a resizable slideshow widget.
M3U/M3U8 playlists, Radio Browser discovery, favorites, metadata, playback controls, IPTV groups, and Google Cast in the play flavor.
Backend is optional#
Regular feeds can be fetched and parsed on-device. The Cloudflare Worker adds shared caching, feed discovery, HTML-to-Atom scraping, clean article extraction, station search, logo lookup, and optional synchronized state.
Leaving Backend URL empty does not disable ordinary RSS/Atom reading. The Worker is an extension layer, not a hard dependency.
Install#
Download either APK flavor from the repository releases:
- play includes Google Cast support,
- foss is Google-services-free and intended for FOSS/F-Droid environments.
The minimum supported system is Android 8.0 (API 26).
